Learn the fundamentals of set lighting and DMX (Digital Multiplex) systems in this hands-on, three-day intensive workshop designed for aspiring Set Lighting Technicians. Hosted at Netflix Studios & MBS in Albuquerque, this training gives you direct access to industry-standard gear, grip trucks, and experienced instructors.
Must be a New Mexico Resident
Must be able to attend October 17th, 18th, 19th, 9 AM to 5 PM
Over the course of the program, you’ll:
Explore crew roles and responsibilities within the lighting department
Get comfortable with essential tools, equipment setup, handling, and storage
Build a solid foundation in electricity, power distribution, safety, and PPE
Gain practical experience with DMX networks, cabling, signal flow, and troubleshooting
Receive a stipend for your attendance
By the end of this intensive, you’ll be prepared for entry-level opportunities as a Day Player or crew member on productions in New Mexico.

Ryan Halsey - Teaching Set Lighting
After graduating from VFS with a concentration in Cinematography, Ryan Halsey relocated to New Mexico in 2007 to immerse himself in the indie film scene. Beginning his career in post-production before transitioning to Camera and ultimately falling in love with Lighting, he has built a reputation both on set and at Serious Grippage as a respected team and community leader.
Ryan thrives in high-pressure environments, embracing the challenges of filmmaking and the collaborative nature of production. He believes in fostering a strong, efficient crew by building people up, ensuring every project delivers great content and compelling stories. His deep knowledge across nearly all aspects of filmmaking makes him an invaluable asset to any set.
Daniel Remillard - Teaching DMX
Daniel Remillard is an experienced lighting technician with more than 15 years of experience in film and live production. As a longtime member of IATSE, they have worked on a wide range of film and television productions, developing hands-on expertise in lighting design, power distribution, and on-set safety. Their experience spans everything from large-scale feature films to independent projects, giving them a well-rounded understanding of the technical and creative aspects of set lighting.
Beyond the job itself, Daniel enjoys the problem-solving and teamwork that come with life on set. Whether troubleshooting gear, adapting to last-minute changes, or just helping the day run smoothly, they take pride in being a reliable part of the crew. They're always happy to share what they’ve learned along the way and appreciate the collaborative nature of the industry.
