The Stagecoach and PROTEC Internship Program is an IATSE 480-approved internship that provides training, mentorship, and access to work with signatory productions. Interns will be selected into this pilot program’s 1st cohort for a weekend intensive training of set safety, soft skill & resume building, IATSE 480 Orientation & Overflow List onboarding, and a second weekend for OSHA 10 Certification.

Interns will be presented as candidates to signatory productions for hire in New
Mexico. Interns are hired on to productions for 2 weeks (80 hours) at $19/hour under Union Department Heads who mentor and expose them to the work culture and job environment, and potentially hiring the intern into their union craft position after the internship to complete their Overflow List days. Participants’ journeys in the pilot program will be tracked from their training to employment for 1 year with quarterly check-ins.

  7. On-Set Safety: Everyone’s safety is our priority. Gain valuable insights and knowledge of on-set safety practices, ensuring a secure and productive working environment. In addition to the safety elements of the onboarding weekend, a second weekend of OSHA-10 training and certification will equip you with all the tools you need to keep yourself and others safe on set.

Beyond your internship, Stagecoach Foundation nurtures relationships with approved productions, connecting them with you: our pool of vetted, talented interns. Following onboarding you will spend 80 hours in your craft department over two weeks where you will be paid for your time and receive industry specific experience in your chosen IATSE 480 craft.

Instructors

Milton Riess

Milton Riess has over 35 years of professional experience deep inside the hard and fast trenches of the Film and Television industry.  He is currently Chair of the Film Department at Santa Fe Community College, primarily heading their Film Production, Film Crew Training Program, and Workforce Development.  Milton is also a Council person on the Santa Fe Film and Digital Media Council. 

Milton moved to Santa Fe 13 years ago from Los Angeles.  After one of his shows got cancelled (and they all do), he came to Santa Fe for a long weekend.  By the end of the weekend, he rented a place, and a month later, he became a resident.

Milton has worked as a writer, script doctor, director, technical director and actor.  Several of his screenplays have won international awards (2012 Hollywood Screenplay Contest, International Family Film Festival Competition, Semi-finalist in Zoetrope Screenplay Competition).  He has been Lighting Director and Technical Director on several Emmy award-winning TV series for NBC/E! Networks as well as countless other TV shows, pilots, commercials, and music videos—250+ productions in all.

Dr. Elizabeth Kianu Stahmer

Dr. Elizabeth Kianu Stahmer, DAOM, Executive Director of Stagecoach Foundation, Inc., has dedicated her career to helping people find health and wellness in their lives through education and workforce development, from preschool teaching to clinical practice to program development in higher education.

She recognizes the exponential empowerment that comes from people having access to learning and rewarding career opportunities that supports themselves and their families.

Today, she brings her experiences together to provide free training in front of and behind the camera and access to work for New Mexicans in our blooming film and tv industry.

Dr. Stahmer received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Indigenous Liberal Studies from the Institute of American Indian Arts and has a Master’s from Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine and a Clinical Doctorate from American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Bryan Evans

Bryan Evans holds the position of Business Representative for IATSE Local 480, one of the largest studio mechanics locals in the nation. In this role, he manages all general operations of the union, overseeing tasks such as participating in national collective bargaining, contract enforcement, and the management of union property and staff. Bryan is a highly dedicated unionist with nearly two decades of experience leading successful campaigns that have empowered many thousands of workers to enhance their well-being and improve their workplaces. He leads strong teams of members and staff who empower workers to take ownership of their union.


Some highlights of Bryan's career include:

  • Currently serving as the logistics chairperson for the national area standards negotiations and negotiator on behalf of IATSE Local 480.

  • Worked to restore collective bargaining rights in the State of Missouri and win the first state workers contracts.

  • Took a leadership role in repealing attempts to repeal the destruction of Collective Bargaining Rights in Wisconsin and helped to run the campaigns to repeal 6 state senators and the governor of Wisconsin.

  • Won many new first hospital and nursing home contracts in Missouri, two of which were the first hospitals to be organized in St. Louis. He also negotiated those contracts and organized residual units after restructuring trusteed locals, building the division from a fractured union into an organizing powerhouse in the span of a few years.

  • Worked to repeal the impacts of the Janus decision on the west coast, bringing in new units for healthcare workers, doctors, and public sector employees; leading campaigns that signed up thousands of non-members, and have worked to re-organize large divisions of thousands of members in both AFSCME and SEIU.

  • Personally bargained over 50 contracts and led over 200 contract campaigns, among leading countless membership drives, and political initiatives. Bryan has managed large teams and budgets that have covered multiple classifications of staff and thousands of members.
